Bienvenue a Provence. If you are arriving to L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue from the west, you have just entered the Vaucluse department of France and are now on the cusp of Provence proper. This village, an ‘island on the Sorgue river’ is surrounded by meandering crystal clear waterways cascading over ancient waterwheels.

Well known for its large Sunday market, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is also a major center of Europe’s fine antique trade. It’s not an uncommon sight to see your random English tourist here trying to fit an 18th century bureau into the back of their right hand drive Land Rover for the drive back across the channel!

A quick drive from L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue is the not to be missed Fontaine-de-Vaucluse.

One of the things we love best about L’isle-sur-la Sorgue and Fontaine-de-Vaucluse is that they are a great jumping off spot for an adventure into the rest of Provence. From this area it is a short drive to the storied villages of Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux and Lourmarin of the gorgeous Petit and Grand Lubéron.
